Pernambuco, the land of Luiz Gonzaga, King of the Baião, has the most traditional São João in Brazil. In all corners of the State, the party warms up to the rhythm of Forro, moved by the energy of the foods typical of the epoch. The clowns and blocks of dancers take over all the streets, and the people enter into the party spirit. Caruaru, in the plains of the coastal foothills of Pernambuco, is the focus of the celebration, with lots of bonfires, corn on the cob, tamales (pamonha), and canjica. Each year, the Forro Train leaves Recife for a different city of the region.
